Booking Through Thursday

Suggested by Monibo:

Saw this article (from March) and thought it would make a good BTT confessional question:

Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?

I don’t think I’ve lied about reading a book since high school when I just couldn’t make it through Silas Marner.  I will admit now that I read the Cliffs Notes and still got an A on the quiz.

As a public librarian, I think it is in my nature to not feel ashamed for what I have and haven’t read.  I feel that we all have a basic freedom to read whatever we want, and people who try to tell you what you “should” be reading are annoying snobs.

  1. I thought this was an odd BTT question, too. I think it must have been HS since I last fibbed whether I’ve read a book. I do get self conscious sometimes, like when someone says, “Oooh, I just loved “David Copperfied”*!” — and I’m forced to admit, errr — yeah, never read it. They judge. They do!

    * or Crime and Punishment, or Ulysses, or etc.

  2. “Heart of Darkeness” by Conrad. This summer in summer school. Read half and then read the rest on cliff notes. Got an A on quiz. It was really boring!
