Book Review – The English Assassin

The English Assassin

Daniel Silva

I read Daniel Silva's The English Assassin this weekend while at the beach, and it was excellent and extremely engrossing.

This is the second in the Gabriel Allon series.  Allon is an art restorer and an Israeli secret agent.  This book begins with the murder of a prominent Swiss banker in his home.

Silva obviously did a great deal of research for The English Assassin because it delves into the history of the Nazis pillaging Jewish art collections in France during World War II and Switzerland's "neutrality" during the war.

Silva is a master of international intrigue, and this novel was an
improvement on the already excellent first novel in the series, The Kill Artist.  As a former CNN correspondent, he obviously knows a great deal about international relations and history, and he is also a really talented writer.
